Showers and possibly a rumble of thunder will move into the Finger Lakes for Tuesday as a cold front moves through.

Rain Chances Tuesday

A slow moving cold front will take its time moving across the Finger Lakes today. As of 7 am, the radar was showing a band of showers pushing into Western New York.

These showers will push into the western Finger Lakes over the next few hours, but should largely dissipate by the mid morning hours. Much of the region will stay dry as a result.

Temperatures will rise quickly through the 50s and into the 60s this morning.

Especially for the eastern Finger Lakes, where rain is unlikely this morning, temperatures will push into the 70s once again this afternoon. Some areas further west may fall just shy of 70 degrees.

Another band of rain will move into the western Finger Lakes between 1-3 pm and spread east across the remainder of the area after 3 pm.

Some embedded thunderstorms will be possible within this area of rain, with a minimal risk for some gusty winds or very small hail.

A few isolated showers or thunderstorms will continue into the evening, but most areas will be dry by then.

Total precipitation amounts today will range from almost nothing in some areas, to up to a half inch in any thunderstorms.

Temperatures Return to Normal

Behind this cold front, temperatures will return to more normal mid-April levels.

Wednesday will see temperatures in the upper 50s. Morning clouds will move east and leave the region sunny for the afternoon.

Sunny skies will persist into Thursday and Friday.

Thursday will be a bit cooler, with highs in the low to mid 50s. Friday will warm back towards 60 degrees.

No precipitation is expected during the second half of the work week.

Easter Weekend Weather Preview

The weather during the Easter Weekend is looking more active at this time.

A warm front is expected to push through the area on Saturday, bringing showers and perhaps some thunder.

Depending on how quickly the front and rain moves through, temperatures could be as low as the 50s and as high as the 70s.

Easter Sunday is more likely to be warm as the region resides in the warm sector of the storm system that will be pushing through.

Temperatures are likely to be above average, though whether this means 60s or 70s is still a bit up in the air.

There will be at least a chance for some showers or thunderstorms.
