Temperatures for the Easter Weekend will rise well above normal, but some rain and wind will also move into the Finger Lakes.

Easter Weekend Weather

The weather this weekend will be dominated by a storm system that will pass by just to the north of the Finger Lakes. As the system approaches and moves through, it will bring a big warm up to the area, but also some chances for rain and gusty winds.

Before this system even organizes, Friday will be a quiet, comfortable day. Morning temperatures in the 30s will quickly rise under sunny skies, and highs should top out just above 60 degrees this afternoon.

Skies will remain clear tonight. After temperatures drop into the upper 30s this evening, they will rise back into the 40s before sunrise Saturday.

The main story on Saturday will be a warm front that will push through. Clouds will increase early Saturday morning and rain will move in from the west during the mid and late morning hours. The rain should push east by the mid afternoon after a couple hours of light precipitation. Rain totals Saturday will generally be around a tenth of an inch.

Warm air will start to flood in behind the front. How warm Saturday gets depends on how quickly the front moves east, but there is at least some potential for 70s, mostly in the western Finger Lakes. Further east, 60s are more likely.

Easter Sunday itself will be very warm. Morning temperatures will start in the upper 50s or 60s and should rise well into the 70s by the afternoon.

A gusty south wind will accompany the warm temperatures, with gusts over 35 mph likely with even higher winds between Rochester and Buffalo and over higher elevations.

During the afternoon, a cold front will approach. This will touch off a few showers and maybe a rumble of thunder. Most of this rain will be scattered and short-lived.

Cooler temperatures will work in early next week, but will generally stay near average.
