Temperatures back to normal in the Finger Lakes

Typical August Weather

After a taste of early fall, the Finger Lakes will feel more like August for the next couple of days with near normal temperatures.

Sunny skies will help the temperature to rise quickly this morning from lows in the 50s and low 60s. A quick jump through the 60s and into the 70s by midday should be expected.

Some fair weather clouds will begin to develop by the late morning and will stick with the area through the remainder of the day. Later this afternoon, some high, thin clouds will also move in, but plenty of sunshine is still expected.

One or two light, stray showers cannot totally be ruled out today. Those areas that do see rain should see very little. Most places will remain dry, though.

Temperatures this afternoon should top out within a few degrees on either side of 80, depending on location. The typically warmer northern Finger Lakes will reach or exceed 80, while the higher elevations further south stick in the 70s.

The high, thin clouds will remain in place overnight and through Thursday, even as the cycle of late morning and afternoon fair weather clouds once again repeats itself.

No rain is expected on Thursday at this time. Temperatures should be a couple degrees warmer than today, with most areas reaching the low 80s.

A Little Unsettled Into the Weekend

A couple of slight disturbances will work through the Finger Lakes later this week. None of these are overly strong, impressive systems, but they will keep the weather a bit unsettled.

A few scattered showers are possible on Friday as the first of these disturbances moves through. Much of the day will likely remain dry though. The best chance for rain will be later in the afternoon, during the peak heating of the day.

The chances for rain and thunderstorms appear to be a bit better on Saturday. Again, there should be plenty of dry time with most of the action coming during the mid and late afternoon hours.

Rain amounts will vary greatly by location over this time period, with some areas not seeing any rain while others see over a half-inch.

Severe thunderstorms and flash flooding are not expected.

A few showers may linger into Sunday, but a generally nicer day is expected. More showers will be possible early next week.

Temperatures during this time will slide back into the 70s.
