Cloudy, Quiet Friday

After a glorious day on Thursday, the weather will take a step backward today and then two more back for Saturday.

A broad southerly flow across the Southeast United States has resulted in a large area of abnormally high atmospheric moisture.

However, high pressure passing through Canada has been keeping that moisture at bay. Yesterday, this resulted in sunny skies, but today, the clouds have returned.

The high pressure system will continue to have enough influence to keep rain out of the region, though.

Therefore, skies will be mostly cloudy today, but no precipitation is expected.

Temperatures will range from the upper 60s to the low 70s today, partly dependent upon any small breaks of sunshine that may try to work through the overcast.

Winds will remain low, with top gust today just around 20 mph.

Rainy Weekend Weather

Tonight, high pressure will take up a position north of Maine. With a clockwise flow of air around the high, winds will turn towards the south and southeast in the Finger Lakes.

Rather than blocking the moisture from our region, this will encourage it to enter freely.

Rain should start to move in from the south after midnight. By daybreak, widespread, steady rain should cover the entire region.

This rain should continue for several hours before tapering off during the late morning and midday hours.

Rain amounts should be roughly around a half-inch, with some areas seeing a couple tenths of an inch more, and some less.

On and off showers and drizzle will linger through the afternoon.

Another round of lighter showers, and possibly a rumble of thunder, will pass through during the early morning hours Sunday.

However, by late Sunday afternoon, the sun should start to come back out.

Temperatures Saturday will range from the 50s in the east to the 60s in the west. Mid and upper 60s will be commonplace on Sunday.

Next week looks generally quiet and mild, with the except of Tuesday, which will have to be watched for the potential for thunderstorms.
