Dry Week Ahead

Sunny and dry weather will persist across the Finger Lakes for most of the upcoming week.

High pressure is firmly in control of our weather once again for Monday.

Centered just south of the region, southwest winds rotating around this high will continue to push warmer temperatures into the region.

Temperatures today will top out in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees. It will be a fairly dry heat though with dew points in the 50s.

Clouds will be hard to come by once again today.

A small front will drop southeast through the region on Tuesday. A couple of widely scattered, very light showers will drift through. Even areas that see a little rain will not see enough to matter much.

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are all looking dry and sunny as well.

Temperatures will briefly retreat back into the 70s for Wednesday but will be flirting with 90 degrees again by Friday.

Rain Needed

The last several months have been marked by below normal precipitation.

Over the last 90 days, most of the Finger Lakes has only seen 50-90% of the normal amount of rainfall.

This has prompted the U.S. Drought Monitor to place all of the region, except the Southern Tier, in the D0- Abnormally Dry classification. This can be interpreted as ‘pre-drought’ conditions where the effects of the dryness are still minimal, yet continued dry weather could start to cause issues.

With not only this week but the next 10 days at least looking very dry, this could start to become a real concern.

This will be something I will continue to watch and update on as we go through July and into August.

Very small chance for a very brief, very light shower. Chances are you will be OK.
