Cold Front Moving Through
A cold front is moving through the Finger Lakes this morning and will take the edge off the heat and humidity.
At 8 AM, clouds and even a few showers remain in the area as the front slowly tracks east. Over Western New York, though, skies are clear.
The clearing skies will head eastward and by the midday hours, all the region should see sunshine. Some fair weather clouds will likely develop this afternoon, but no additional rain is expected.
Northwest winds will develop and blow at 5-10 mph, bringing dry, somewhat cooler air into the region. Highs today will still reach the low and mid 80s, but afternoon dewpoints will be in the 50s. This is much lower than yesterday’s dewpoints at or above 70 degrees.
Skies will clear tonight and temperatures will drop back into the 60s.
Wednesday will get off to a sunny start before cumulus clouds bubble up. This time, scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible as a small disturbance moves into the region.
Not everyone will see rain tomorrow, but a few clusters of storms are possible with a locally strong wind risk.
Temperatures on Wednesday will be similar to today with highs in the low and mid 80s. Dewpoints will push back into the 60s.
Late Week Weather
There will be nothing too notable in the weather for the late week period. Temperatures will come in near average and the rain chances will be small, but above zero.
Thursday looks to have the best chance for some afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Overall, though, the rain chances on Thursday are less than on Wednesday.
Outside of any showers, skies will be a mix of sun and fair-weather clouds. Highs on Thursday will be in the upper 70s and low 80s.
Temperatures will retreat a couple more degrees for Friday with highs near or slightly below 80 degrees. A few stray showers will be possible, but most of the region will stay dry.
Saturday will have sun and increasing thin clouds but next to no precipitation in the area. Highs will be around 80 degrees.
A storm system will move in for Sunday, starting with a warm front in the morning. If the front moves through quickly, warm, humid air will set us up for afternoon or evening thunderstorms. This will be something to keep an eye on as we get later into the week.

I have it that we’ve already broken or will break the Ithaca NY record for number of days 80 degrees of more.
Can you verify the record? I have it at 44 days. By count through various sites I have a whopping 53 days of 80 or more already this year. Can that possibly be true?

NRCC data shows the record for 80-degree or more days currently stands at 59, in 1949. We are now at, or close to 40. This keeps up, there’s a good chance we’ll break the record this years. Thanks.

I’m very interested in what the NRCC is saying. Can you share where you found that?
I downloaded, from the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), the complete daily climate history for Ithaca (Cornell University station), going back to 1893, and ran the data through a program to calculate the number of 80+ degree days. While the record year agrees, 1949, I calculated 92 days at or above 80º…not merely 59.
