Everything remains on track for numerous severe thunderstorms late this afternoon and early this evening.
The Storm Prediction Center has held their Level 3- Enhanced risk classification for our area with their 12:30 PM update. Damaging winds remain the primary threat.
I agree with this classification as I am expecting several corridors of damaging winds in addition to some hail and perhaps a tornado or two.
The latest short-term modeling is consistent in showing scattered thunderstorms developing to our west by 4-5 PM, then heading east and organizing into one or more line segments, exiting to the east by 8 or 9 PM. There is a chance that the line could grow large enough to span most or all of the eastern half of the Finger Lakes, though not all areas would necessarily see a severe thunderstorm, even in that scenario.
Remember! Straight-line damaging winds from a microburst are equally destructive and hazardous as a weak tornado… and are more common and impact larger areas!
Also as a refresher, a severe thunderstorm or tornado watch is issued over a large area spanning several hours as a general “watch out” for severe weather in the area.
Meanwhile, a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning is issued for individual storms where that hazard is occurring. All warnings should be taken seriously.
Be sure to tune back sometime between 4 and 5 PM as I begin my constant live coverage of this first significant severe weather event of the season.

Thanks Drew and appreciate your work. As we are in a cel dead area, we rely on the net which we will monitor. Sadly our comms are only VOIP.
