A cluster of strong to severe thunderstorms is rumbling through the southeastern FLX this mid-afternoon.
Wires have been reported down in Ithaca.
These storms will continue to move off to the southeast with a strong wind and heavy rain risk.
Elsewhere in the FLX, there are mostly just a few stray showers about.
However, this does not mean the threat is over for the day. New development is already ongoing near Buffalo, and additional thunderstorms may also pop up over our region.
Expect a continued on and off risk for some strong storms through the remainder of the afternoon and into the early evening. As such, a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 8 PM.
As a reminder, watches are issued for many hours over large areas to indicate the potential for severe weather. Warnings are issued for small areas and short time spans to address ongoing severe weather from particular storm cells.
