Temperatures will fall through Friday on gusty, cold northwest winds.
Cold Front Drops Temperatures
Stepping out your door early this morning, you may get the impression it will be another decently mild day in the Finger Lakes. You will not want to leave your coat at home though, as it will be quite chilly by the afternoon.
A cold front is moving through the region this morning. There are only a few widely scattered showers with this front with most areas not seeing any rain. Despite its lack of precipitation, it remains a potent cold front.
Temperatures behind the front will spend most of the day sliding backwards. While morning temperatures are around 50 degrees, noontime temperatures will be closer to 40 degrees with most of the area into the 30s by dusk later this afternoon.
Not only will the temperature be dropping, but the wind will be blowing. Wind gusts of 25 to 30 mph will be commonplace. This will actually result in a wind chill in the low 30s as early as noon and into the 20s for some areas this afternoon.
Skies will likely remain mostly cloudy throughout the day, but very little to no additional precipitation is expected.
Weekend Weather Improves
High pressure will build in behind the cold front tonight and through the weekend. This high will track into the Great Lakes region before turning south towards the Ohio Valley.
Skies may remain mostly cloudy throughout tonight, which will help keep the temperatures from falling too far. Morning lows Saturday will still be in the upper 20s for much of the region.
The sun should work out during the morning hours Saturday and remain in place much of the day. Winds will gradually turn towards the west and then southwest as the high pressure moves south.
High temperatures on Saturday will be in the mid 40s, but the southwest winds and sunshine will mean 50s return to the region on Sunday afternoon.
Have a very happy Veterans Day- thank you to all who have served our nation!
