Sun for Monday, then some rain

Starting Sunny

Monday is picking up where the weekend left off with another cool, clear morning across the Finger Lakes.

There will be some subtle differences to how today evolves versus the weekend, though.

For starters, unlike the weekend, skies should stay sunny longer today. The low level moisture that led to rather cloudy late mornings and afternoons over the weekend is absent today.

Instead, look for a gradual increase in thin clouds high in the atmosphere during the second half of the afternoon. These clouds will probably not completely block out the sun, but it will filter some of its intensity.

Temperatures will be a bit warmer today thanks to the extra sunshine. Most areas should see highs in the mid 70s. Some higher elevations may stick in the low 70s.

Skies will become increasingly cloudy overnight. A few showers will also start to work in towards dawn.

This will result in a warmer overnight, with temperatures sticking in the low 60s for most of the Finger Lakes with upper 50s in the Southern Tier.

Showers Tuesday and Wednesday

Rain showers will overspread much of the area Tuesday morning. These showers will have to overcome some dry air and may not reach the ground initially.

Still, most areas should see some light on and off rain through the morning. The chances for rain will decrease east of Cayuga Lake, but at least a few spits of rain are still expected.

Tuesday afternoon should then turn into a mix of clouds and some breaks of sun. The chances for rain will diminish and temperatures will bounce back into the mid 70s.

A cold front will cross the region on Wednesday. A slow moving band of rain is expected, again mostly during the morning and early afternoon hours. A few rumbles of thunder may accompany this rain. Some areas could see over a half-inch of rain Wednesday.

After morning lows in the mid 60s Wednesday, afternoon highs should reach the mid to perhaps upper 70s.

Thursday looks dry behind the front, but a few more showers may move in for Friday. Thursday will see temperatures in the low and mid 70s while Friday gets a few degrees warmer.

An early look at the weekend shows clouds, but not much in the way of precipitation with cool temperatures once again.
