» If you are looking for information beyond Friday, much of the information in Wednesday morning’s update is still valid. I intend to do a post Friday morning, but it is possible that circumstance out of my control could prevent that.

Hazardous wind chills are especially likely during the morning hours, but the entire day will be cold with subzero wind chills. Areas of lake effect snow will be possible in the far north as well, eventually coming further south this evening. Snow accumulation within the snowiest areas may total several inches, but most areas will see little to no accumulation.

Early Morning (3-7 AM)

Clouds across the northern half of the region, increasingly common breaks in the clouds with southward extent.

Lake effect snow, light to moderate, mainly over Wayne and Cayuga counties.

Northwest winds around or slightly over 10 mph.

Many areas at or below zero. Some lake shore and areas impacted by lake effect will stay just above zero. Wind chills -10 to -20 with a few colder pockets.

Morning (7-11 AM)

Clouds across the north, mixed skies through the center, and sunshine in the south.

Lake effect snow, light to moderate, mainly over Wayne, northern Cayuga, and Onondaga counties.

Northwest winds 10-15 mph, gusting 25-30 mph.

Temperatures rising to range through the single digits. Wind chills -10 to -20 but improving slightly toward late morning.

Midday (11 AM-1 PM)

Clouds across the north, mixed skies through the center, and sunshine in the south.

Lake effect snow, light to moderate, mainly over northeastern Wayne, northern Cayuga, and Onondaga counties.

Northwest winds 10-15 mph, gusting 25-30 mph.

Temperatures increasing slightly but still ranging through the single digits. Wind chills -5 to -15.

Afternoon (1-4 PM)

Clouds across the north, mixed skies through the center, and sunshine in the south.

Lake effect snow, light to moderate, mainly over far northeastern Wayne, far northern Cayuga, and northern Onondaga counties.

Winds gradually turning to the west and dropping speeds slightly, but still at least around 10 mph.

A few warm pockets manage to hit 10 degrees. Mid and upper 0s for the rest of the region. Wind chills 0 to -10.

Late Afternoon (4-6 PM)

Clouds across the north, mixed skies through the center, and sunshine in the south.

Lake effect strengthens and starts to move back south into Wayne, northern Cayuga, and Onondaga counties.

West and northwest winds around 10 mph.

Temperatures dropping a couple degrees, ranging through the single digits. Wind chills 0 to -10.

Evening (6-10 PM)

Mostly to completely cloudy.

Heaviest snow over parts of northern Monroe, much of Wayne, northern Cayuga, and western Onondaga counties. Lighter snow south from there, reaching as far as northern Seneca, northern Tompkins, and northern Cortland counties.

West-northwest and northwest winds around 10 mph.

Temperatures mainly ranging through the 0s with a few pockets of the Southern Tier slipping below zero. Wind chills variable from 0 to -15.

Overnight (11 PM-3 AM)

Mostly to completely cloudy.

Lake effect snow weakens and pivots to be concentrated over Wayne, northeastern Seneca, and southern Cayuga counties.

West-northwest and northwest winds 5-10 mph.

Temperatures dropping another degree or two, but most areas outside of the Southern Tier staying above zero. Wind chills variable from +5 to -10.
