Typical springtime weather is expected over the next week with temperatures rising and falling, bringing a chance for rain, thunderstorms, and snow showers.

Thursday

What: Morning fog and drizzle; A few showers

Impacts: Areas of low visibility

The frontal boundary that has been hanging around the area all week will slowly work its way north today. Temperatures will be variable as a result, with highs well into the 50s to the southwest, and not quite reach 50 degrees along Lake Ontario and I-81.

Clouds, drizzle, and fog will continue this morning. The fog and drizzle will dissipate by the afternoon, but only a few brief gaps in the clouds are expected. Winds will be light from the southeast but will increase and become blustery tonight.

Temperatures overnight will not change much, though instead of a southwest to northeast gradient, things will shift a little for more of a northwest to southeast gradient.

Friday

What: Warm. A few showers, storms.

The front will be well north of the area on Friday, allowing warm air to surge into the region. Many places will see an afternoon high near or above 70 degrees.

Skies will be a mix of sun and clouds with southeast winds, which may be breezy at times.

A small weather system will bring a few afternoon showers and maybe a light thunderstorm or two. No severe weather is expected.

Light north winds will develop behind this system Friday night, sending temperatures well down into the 40s.

Saturday

What: Warm. A few showers, storms.

By Saturday morning, winds will be back to a southerly direction and warm air will quickly move right back in. While not quite as warm as Friday, highs will be above 65 degrees for most and a couple places may still reach 70 degrees.

Scattered showers will be possible, especially in the afternoon. A couple thunderstorms may also be possible.

South winds will turn blustery during the night with temperatures staying in the 50s. Widespread rain will move in sometime between midnight and dawn.

Sunday

What: Morning rain ends. Breezy and cool.

The rain late Saturday night will exit the area sooner rather than later Sunday morning. The cold front responsible for the rain will pass through with breezy westerly winds developing behind it.

Many areas will still be near or above 50 degrees at sunrise, but temperatures will gradually fall. The afternoon will see temperatures ranging through the 40s with occasional wind gusts over 35 mph.

There may be a few glimpses of sun during the midday and first part of the afternoon. Precipitation will return late and into the night in the form of a few rain and snow showers.

Monday & Tuesday

What: Occasional snow showers.

Cool air will stick around for the early part of next week. Small bits of atmospheric energy will pass through with some occasional rain and snow showers. No snow accumulation is expected.

Temperatures may still manage to be around 40 degrees on Monday, but highs Tuesday will be in the mid and upper 30s. Tuesday night will see the chilliest air, with lows in the mid 20s.

Winds will be a bit breezy on Monday but lighter on Tuesday.

Later Next Week

Wednesday will be the pivot day when the weather starts to turn warmer again. Currently, it looks like a sunny day with highs in the mid 40s. As soon as Thursday, temperatures may make a run toward 60 degrees, with mild to warm weather continuing into next weekend.

It is too early to tell if there will be much rain late next week and next weekend. Overall, the pattern looks quieter than it has been though.
