Temperatures will reach their high point for the week today and Friday before slight cool down this weekend. Next week looks very warm and unsettled with several chances for showers and possibly some thunderstorms.

Thursday

What: Sun and clouds. Breezy.

Impacts: Increased brush fire risk.

Blustery south winds and a dry atmosphere will bring ideal brush fire conditions this afternoon, even taking into consideration the recent rainfall. Winds will gust to 30-40 mph at times. Skies will be a mix of sun and clouds with just a small chance for a stray shower this evening. Most areas will remain dry. Temperatures will be variable, with mid 60s in the northwestern Finger Lakes ranging down to upper 50s across the southeast.

Friday

What: Late afternoon rain.

A cold front will move through the area Friday afternoon. An area of rain will slowly drop southeast during the latter half of the afternoon. The rain will be showery, but will last a few hours. Rain amounts should generally be between a quarter and a half an inch. Temperatures will peak during the early afternoon, then begin to drop as the rain moves in. Winds will be lighter than today.

Saturday

What: Sun and clouds.

Steady, but not too strong northwest winds will blow throughout Saturday, holding most areas to a high in the mid and upper 40s. A few of the typically warmer valley and urban locations may get to 50 degrees. Skies will be a mix of sun and clouds throughout the day.

Sunday

What: Maybe a few late showers.

South winds will redevelop on Sunday with wind speeds similar to Saturday. This will help nudge temperatures back into the 50s. Clouds will be more widespread than on Saturday, and a few late day showers may be possible. These will continue to be possible into the evening and overnight hours.

Monday

What: Some scattered showers.

The chance for stray showers will continue on Monday as warmer air forces its way into the region. Afternoon highs should be well into the 60s and a few places could hit 70 degrees if some sun works its way out.

Tuesday

What: Late day thunderstorms?

The forecast confidence begins to drop by Tuesday, at least as far as precipitation goes. There may be some late day showers and storms, but we will have to see how this evolves over the coming days. What is quite certain is that it will be very warm with highs in the 70s likely.

Late Next Week

Warm temperatures will likely continue into Wednesday and may even bleed into Thursday as well. The weekend looks cooler, though, with highs probably in the 50s. Unsettled conditions will persist with at least some scattered showers around daily through the end of the week, then slightly lesser chances for rain by the weekend.
