Southerly flow will bring in much warmer air today. Temperatures will cool slightly by Friday, then hop back up for the weekend. A strong cold front early next week may usher in a stronger period of chilly weather. Rain showers will be possible for the next few days, but few and far between. Rain is more likely late Sunday into Monday as the remains of what should become Hurricane Isaias pass through our area without much fanfare.

Wednesday
What: A couple showers
Southerly winds will be in place today, increasing to 10-15 mph as they turn to a southwest wind. This will push temperatures into the upper 60s to around 70 degrees.
As the warmer air comes in, some clouds will develop and perhaps a few stray showers will become possible. The highest chance for rain will be in the late afternoon, but most areas will not see rain. The rain that does fall should be relatively brief with low amounts.
The chance for a few showers will persist overnight, as will southwest winds. Overnight lows will be in the low and mid 50s.
Thursday
What: A couple showers
A weak cold front will slide through on Thursday with another relatively small chance for showers. Rain amounts will be minimal and many areas will once again not see any rainfall. A very brief downpour or rumble of thunder cannot be ruled out. There should be quite a bit of sunshine, too. Winds will increase behind the front, turning to the west-northwest at around 15 mph for a couple hours in the afternoon. High temperatures will be in the mid 60s with overnight lows in the mid 40s.
Friday
What:Â A couple showers
A frontal boundary will remain nearby on Friday, forcing a couple showers into the forecast. Like Wednesday and Thursday, most areas will not see rain. The most likely area for a few showers will be the northeastern quadrant of the region. Otherwise, sun and clouds will mix.
Winds will be from the northwest at 10-15 mph. It will be the coolest of the upcoming days with highs in the low and mid 60s. Nighttime temperatures will be in the mid 40s.
Saturday
What: Sunny
Saturday looks bright and sunny. Some thin overcast may build in from the south late in the day and then overnight. Winds will be from the south around 10 mph, increasing slightly after sunset. Afternoon highs will shoot back up to around 70 degrees as long as the clouds don’t arrive too soon. Nighttime temperatures will be mild in the mid 50s.
Sunday
What: Some filtered sun. Late showers.
The remains of what will become Hurricane Isaias, set to make landfall in the Gulf states, will arrive in our area late Sunday into Sunday night. Thin overcast will gradually thicken with scattered showers arriving late in the afternoon. Rain will become more likely overnight, but should not be particularly heavy. Winds will be steady from the south and southeast around 10 mph. High temperatures will be in the upper 60s and overnight lows will stay above 55 degrees for most areas.
Monday
What: Early showers
Rain Sunday night will taper to scattered showers on Monday. These will be most likely during the morning and should taper off and end during the afternoon. Winds are expected to be light and temperatures mild with highs in the mid and upper 60s.
Tuesday
What: Rain, wind, falling temperatures
A strong cold front looks possible but uncertain for next Tuesday. This set up could produce a period of rain, possibly briefly heavy, followed by gusty winds and temperatures falling into the 40s during the afternoon. While that is what is showing on the models this morning, it is still a week away. While such cold fronts are not uncommon at this time of the year, the end result may end up a bit less dramatic.
Next Week
Scattered showers will be possible throughout next week, including a chance for some lake effect precipitation. Cool air will settle in behind Tuesday’s cold front, with Wednesday looking especially cool. It may be hard pressed for temperatures to get back to 60 degrees late next week or early in the week that follows.
