Hurricane Isaias will make landfall along the Gulf Coast Friday night, but clouds well out ahead of the storm will make their way into the Finger Lakes early Saturday morning. Some filtered sunshine will still be possible and rain will hold off until Sunday. Much of Sunday is looking rainy, though, with temperatures holding steady in the 50s from Saturday night through Monday morning. Next week will have frequent weather systems passing through with every-other-day showers and temperatures remaining on the cool side.

Friday

What: Sun and clouds

High pressure will pass through the area today. Skies will be sunny with some fair weather clouds and no rain.

Winds will be from the northwest at speeds up to 15 mph. Highs will be in the low and mid 60s. Nighttime temperatures will be in the low 40s with pockets of upper 30s.

Saturday

What: Early sun north, filtered sun otherwise

Clouds out ahead of Hurricane Isaias will start to move into New York from the south as early as the predawn hours of Saturday. Over the course of the morning, the cloud shield will expand north over the entire Finger Lakes. Some filtered sun may still shine through the clouds, but to what degree is always tricky to tell. No rain is expected, though.

Winds will be light from the southeast around 5 mph. Afternoon highs will be in the mid 60s for most areas. Nighttime temperatures will drop to the low and mid 50s.

Sunday

What: Midday, afternoon rain

Rainfall associated with the remains of Hurricane Isaias will move into the Finger Lakes on Sunday. Models are coming into better agreement that rain will enter the area during the latter half of the morning at the latest. Once the rain begins, it will remain in place for the rest of the day, though some brief lulls may be possible from time to time. Rainfall amounts look to be between a half and one inch. No flooding is expected and our area could really use the rainfall, with about half the region in the lowest level of drought classification.

Wind will not be a concern, but will be a bit breezy, coming in from the southeast at 10-15 mph. Temperatures Sunday will not move much with most areas spending the day and the night in the mid 50s.

Monday

What: Mostly cloudy

A few lingering showers may be possible early Monday, but for the most part, it just looks like a mostly cloudy day. Sunshine will be most likely late in the afternoon. Winds are expected to be from the northwest at up to 10 mph with temperatures reaching highs in the low and mid 60s.

Tuesday

What: Showers at some point

A cold front will make its way through the area sometime on Tuesday, though the models continue to be inconsistent with the timing and intensity of any rainfall. By Monday morning’s post, this should be much more clear. If you have plans outdoors Tuesday, expect rain at some point during the day. Temperatures will depend on the timing of the front as well, but should be in the 60s ahead of the front.

Wednesday

What: Sun and clouds

High pressure will build in behind Tuesday’s front for a quiet, cool Wednesday. Highs will be in the mid 50s. Winds will be from the north, but are not expected to be strong. Nighttime temperatures will dip into the low 40s, but the chances for frost at this time look low.

Thursday

What: Sun and clouds. A couple late showers

Another weather system will move in sometime Thursday with showers. Uncertainty in the details this far out is high. Temperatures look as though they will remain in the 50s or low 60s.

Next Weekend

Cool air is expected to remain in place late next week and into next weekend with highs in the 50s. Clouds and showers are likely, keeping nighttime temperatures far from any frost concerns. Which days late next week and next weekend end up the rainiest remains to be seen.
