This week will be one of classic October weather-swings as two main weather systems passing through. The first will boost temperatures in the 70s on Tuesday with a small chance for some isolated severe thunderstorms. The second system will bring rain, strong winds, and perhaps the first few higher elevation snowflakes Friday night into early Saturday. The rest of the week will see temperatures falling and rising as these systems come and go.

Monday
What: Mostly cloudy
Today will generally be cloudy, though some sun should start to work its way out between the clouds during the latter half of the afternoon. No rain is expected. Winds will be light and generally from a westerly direction. Afternoon highs will be much milder than yesterday with most areas between 65-70 degrees. Tonight, there will be a continued but not total decrease in clouds. Winds will turn to the southwest and gradually increase. Temperatures will initially fall into the 50s, but some northern and western areas will rise back into the low 60s overnight.
Tuesday
What: Scattered showers, a few afternoon storms
A cold front will approach the area from the north on Tuesday. Morning showers will be possible, especially across the northern half of the region. There should be a lull in the rain during the midday and early afternoon with some breaks of sun. Additional showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms will pop up in the latter half of the afternoon. The thunderstorm risk will diminish quickly as sunset approaches. Within this couple hour window, however, there will be enough wind energy in the atmosphere to bring an isolated threat for some strong thunderstorm winds or even a brief, weak tornado. Significant, widespread severe weather is unlikely.
Non-thunderstorm related winds will be southwest at 10-15 mph. Temperatures will average out in the mid 70s, but some of the typically warmer areas should push into the upper 70s. During the evening, a few showers will linger with temperatures falling back to the 60s.
Wednesday
What: A few showers
Wednesday will be rather cloudy with a few occasional showers. Not all areas will see rain, and those that do should see minimal amounts. Winds will be from the northwest around 10 mph. Temperatures will change little during the day, hanging out in the lower 60s. Clouds will remain much of Wednesday night with winds turning to the north. Overnight lows will be in the upper 40s.
Thursday
What: Sun and clouds.
Thursday will be dry with a mix of sun and clouds. Winds will be from the north with speeds around or slightly over 5 mph. Afternoon highs will mainly be in the upper 50s with mid 50s in the hills. A southeast wind will develop Thursday night. Temperatures will initially drop to the low 50s, but may rise a couple of degrees prior to sunrise Friday.
Friday
What:Â Scattered showers
Our next weather maker will move in on Friday with occasional showers. The timing and extent of the rain are still uncertain this far in advance, but most areas should see rain. Afternoon highs have a shot at reaching the low 60s, especially if the rain holds off until later in the day. Strong northwest winds are possible by evening as a cold front passes through, causing temperatures to drop quickly overnight. Many areas will be into the 30s overnight with a few snowflakes mixing in with some of the rain showers.
Saturday
What: Morning showers and maybe a couple snowflakes
Scattered showers, with a few higher elevation snowflakes mixing in, will linger into Saturday morning as blustery northwest winds remain in place. The afternoon should turn dry with some breaks of sun, but northwest winds will remain gusty. Most areas will see highs in the mid and upper 40s.
Clearing skies Saturday night will send temperatures well down into the 30s. Wind speeds around 10 mph may help prevent frost formation in open areas, but sheltered areas may easily see frost or even freeze conditions.
Sunday
What:Â Sun and clouds
Winds will be much lighter on Sunday. Skies will be a mix of sun and clouds with no rain expected. Afternoon highs will reach the mid 50s.
Next Week
Next week looks quieter with no major weather systems currently showing on the models. As such, temperatures will likely remain steady with highs generally in the 60s. Clear nights will lead to lows in the 30s and 40s, so there may be more chances for frost.
