While a steady, soaking rain is not in the cards anytime soon, we are leaving behind the pattern of sunny, totally dry days and warm temperatures. Most of the upcoming days will have stray showers or spits of rain. The best chance for a rainier day will come on Saturday. The mild weather will also depart, falling from highs near 70 today to the 60s tomorrow and then the 50s and even 40s beyond.

Thursday

What: Morning rain showers, some afternoon sun

Rain showers are scattered about the area this morning, continuing from the overnight period. There is still a chance for a period of steadier rain lasting an hour or so over the eastern Finger Lakes. The rain should diminish by midday and sunshine will try to increase during the afternoon. Winds will be from the southwest at 10-15 mph. Late in the day, winds over the northern Finger Lakes may turn to the west or even northwest, but this will be brief with light south winds reestablishing themselves after sunset. Many areas will still make it to around 70 degrees for a couple hours in the afternoon. Nighttime temperatures will fall back to the upper 40s and low 50s.

Friday

What: Clouds, a few showers

Friday has trended cloudier with a higher chance for showers. There may be a few breaks of sun, and most of the showers will come later in the day. Winds will be from the south around 5 mph until they turn to the southwest late in the afternoon. Another shift to the northwest is expected Friday night. Afternoon highs will top out in the low to locally mid 60s. Nighttime temperatures will drop into the mid 40s.

Saturday

What: Frequent showers

An area of low pressure will pass just south of the Finger Lakes on Saturday. Skies will be cloudy with on and off showers throughout the day. A few periods of steadier rain are also possible, lasting an hour or so each. Wind speeds will be around 10 mph, but the direction will be variable as the low passes through. In the end, winds will end up from the northwest. High temperatures will be in the low 50s. Overnight lows will be in the mid and upper 30s with a few lakeshores near 40 degrees.

Sunday

What: Sun and clouds. A few late showers.

Most of Sunday will be a mix of sun and clouds. There will be a small chance for some showers late in the afternoon, with a higher chance into the evening and overnight hours. Winds will be westerly at 10-15 mph with some occasional jogs to the northwest and/or southwest. Temperatures will not change much from Saturday, with highs in the low and mid 50s and overnight lows ranging from the mid 30s to low 40s.

Monday

What: Scattered showers, blustery winds

Monday is looking cloudy and a bit showery. None of the precipitation is looking overly heavy, but it may linger off and on through the day. A few higher elevations in the eastern Finger Lakes may see a couple wet snowflakes mix in early. It will be blustery with northwest winds of 15-20 mph and gusts of 30-40 mph possible. Afternoon highs will be in the low 50s with overnight lows around 40 degrees.

Tuesday

What: Sun and clouds, a few showers

Tuesday will have a mix of sun and clouds and perhaps a few scattered showers. At this time, it does not appear that everyone will see rain. Winds will still be a bit blustery, though probably not quite as strong as on Monday and with a more west-southwesterly direction. Temperatures may rise a couple degrees for a high in the mid 50s.

Wednesday

What: Sun and clouds

Wednesday looks dry at this time, but confidence is low that the forecast will hold. Temperatures will be in the upper 40s and low 50s.

Late Next Week

The chances for rain may gradually increase again toward next weekend. There is a small chance some of the precipitation could end up as snow. Highs in the 40s seem most likely at this point.
