The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded the northeastern quarter of the Finger Lakes to a Level 3 – ENHANCED risk for severe thunderstorms. Damaging winds are the driver of this upgrade.
This goes well with what I said in my blog post a few hours ago, both in regards to the storms needing time to organize and the chances for severe weather being higher with northward extent.
Thunderstorms are continuing across Ontario and will likely increase through the morning as the disturbance continues to move east-northeast towards Lake Ontario.
The next update from the SPC comes at 12:30. By that time, we should already be under a watch.
I’ll continue to post updates as the situation evolves and may need to do another live blog this afternoon.
