Hot & Humid

Temperatures are rapidly rising through the 70s early this morning and should be well into the 80s by noon for most of the Finger Lakes. A good portion of the region should see 90 degrees today, with mostly the higher elevations sticking in the 80s.

Dew points will climb well into the 60s, making it feel even hotter. Heat Index values will mostly be between 90-95 degrees. A few places could sneak into the upper 90s for a time as well.

It will be another warm and muggy night tonight. Temperatures will slowly back through the 80s and 70s this evening. However, many areas will only fall to around 70 degrees tonight. With dew points in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees, it will not be comfortable sleeping weather.

There is little relief from the heat and humidity in the forecast. Temperatures will back off a few degrees for Saturday, but should return to 90 degrees or hotter on Sunday. Temperatures will remain well above normal, with more chances for 90 degree heat, through much of next week.

Minimal Severe Thunderstorm Risk

With all of the heat and humidity the atmosphere will unsurprisingly be primed for thunderstorm development. This will be complimented by favorable conditions aloft for severe storm development. However, one ingredient will still be missing: a substantial mechanism to trigger thunderstorm development.

A very slight disturbance will pass by this afternoon which could trigger one or two very isolated thunderstorms. Most of the region will probably not see any thunderstorms or rain today. For the few locations that do, the storms will have to be watched for the potential of strong winds and hail.

The threat level for today is set at minimum due to the very isolated nature of the storms. This means that the vast majority of the region will not see severe weather today, but a couple of isolated locations could.

Dry weather will settle in for the weekend before another chance for showers and storms on Monday.

Is there any future likelihood for a soaking rain soon for the Finger Lakes?
