5:15 PM Audio Update and Transcript

This is Finger Lakes Weather meteorologist Drew Montreuil with a severe thunderstorm update for Thursday, May 18th.

As of 5:15pm, most of the Finger Lakes is under a severe thunderstorm watch for scattered strong to severe thunderstorms. Large hail, along with strong winds are the primary threat with these storms. There is, however, a low tornado threat as well.

Currently, thunderstorms are moving across the Finger Lakes, with Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for portions of Yates, Seneca, and Cayuga counties, along with Onondaga county. Reports of hail as large as 2 inches have already come in from the storms today.

These thunderstorms will continue to track east and will gradually consolidate into a broken line, likely over Central New York. Most of the activity should be done by 7 or 8pm across the Finger Lakes. A few additional strong storms are possible around 9 or 10 pm, mostly along and west of I-390.

Please continue to monitor this post for live updates throughout the evening.
