Rain Chances Through Memorial Day
Thursday-Friday
A large area of rain is moving through the Finger Lakes early Thursday morning. The heaviest of this rain is over the western portions of the Finger Lakes, but more areas will see at least a half-inch of rain by the afternoon.
During the early afternoon hours, the steady rain will begin to taper off from south to north. Most of the rain should be over by 2 or 3 pm. A few more isolated showers will be possible after that time, but most of the late afternoon and evening should be dry.
A few isolated showers will be possible overnight and into Friday morning. Once the atmosphere warms a bit Friday, the showers will become a bit more common during the afternoon and evening hours. Still, the rain will remain scattered and rain amounts will be light.
Saturday-Monday
Saturday looks like the least rainy day between now and Memorial Day. At most, a few isolated morning showers may be possible. Much of the day will be dry though, and many areas will probably not see any rain at all.
Sunday may very well start dry and remain as such into the late afternoon hours. However, a storm system will approach from the southwest, spreading showers and thunderstorms into the area. The timing of this system will be key on what the Finger Lakes should expect. A best case scenario would be a later arrival, with showers and a few rumbles of thunder Sunday night. A worst case scenario would be a late afternoon arrival, which would bring the possibility of some strong thunderstorms.
Monday is also rather uncertain. At this time, it seems that there may be a few light, scattered showers about in the morning, followed by some showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Even in this scenario, there would be at least some dry time on Monday. Alternatively, rain could end up very limited on Monday, resulting in a rather nice day.
Temperatures Trend Upward
With the clouds and rain showers Thursday and Friday, temperatures will be cool across the Finger Lakes. Highs will likely only be near 60 degrees on Thursday with perhaps low 60s on Friday.
Saturday will be a rather comfortable day. High temperatures will top out in the upper 60s and winds will be very light.
Sunday and Monday will feel more summery, with highs pushing into the 70s. How high the temperatures go depend on how much sun comes out, but Sunday is more likely to be uncomfortably warm than Monday.
