Weather bottoms out Tuesday, then starts to improve

finger lakes weather forecast rain cold
Tuesday will sum up our recent weather pattern well, with showers and cold temperatures, but nicer weather is on the way.

If you can get through the dismal weather on Tuesday, conditions will start to improve from here on out.

Dismal, Dreary, Dark, and Damp

Pick your adjective on how you want to describe today’s weather, but it will not be a nice, early June day by any stretch of the imagination.

In fact, the weather today may just be the chilliest, dreariest day we will have in what has been a prolonged stretch of such weather.

Low pressure is sitting directly over top of the Finger Lakes, spinning showers across the region this morning.

Showers will continue throughout the day. Even when it is not raining, fog and drizzle will be likely.

Temperatures will rise very little today, and will in fact fall in some areas this afternoon. The warmest temperatures will struggle to get above 60 degrees, mostly across the western Finger Lakes. Closer to Central New York, the temperature will slide from the mid 50s this morning to the low 50s or even just below 50 degrees this afternoon.

This is about as cold as it gets in the Finger Lakes in early June, when daily high temperatures should be in the mid 70s.

The shower activity will gradually lessen this evening and overnight- the first signs of a change in our fortunes.

The Weather Gets Better

When you hit rock bottom, there is no where left to go but up, right?

The weather in the Finger Lakes will start to improve, starting with some sunshine on Wednesday. High pressure will build into the region from the northwest, kicking the stubborn low pressure out to sea.

Clouds may try to linger Wednesday morning, especially for areas further south, but the sun should win out by the afternoon all across our area. Temperatures in southern areas where the clouds linger longest may only reach the low and mid 60s, but further north near I-90, highs should reach the upper 60s.

Thursday should be a rather nice day as well, though some clouds from a storm system moving northeast off the east coast will attempt to slide in. A shower over the eastern areas cannot be ruled out, but most of the area should remain dry. Highs Thursday will get back above 70 degrees finally, with mostly low 70s.

Friday may lose a couple degrees as some cooler air wraps around that coastal system. There is a bit better of a chance for some showers, especially in the morning, but the majority of the rain should stay east. Highs Friday look to be in the upper 60s to a few low 70s.

Temperatures Saturday will rise well into the 70s before 80s return to the Finger Lakes for Sunday and into next week. A couple pop-up showers may be possible late Saturday, but dry weather looks more likely Sunday and early next week.
