Rainy Thursday
An area of widespread rain is moving through the Finger Lakes Thursday morning. Most of the rain is light to moderate in nature, though a couple downpours will be possible.
The rainiest part of the day will be during the morning. By the early afternoon, the rain shield will shrink in area and intensity before tapering to just a few lingering showers later this afternoon.
A few showers may linger into the evening hours or even Friday morning.
Most areas should see between a quarter and half inch of rain today. Rain amounts will be lower across the southern Finger Lakes and Southern Tier, where the rain will be more intermittent.
No flooding is expected from this rain, as it will come at a slow enough pace and amounts will be below flood levels. Severe weather and thunderstorms are also not expected.
Temperatures will be held in check by the clouds and rain showers this morning, but as the rain tapers off this afternoon, highs should reach the mid 70s.
Weather Greatly Improves
The front that is moving through the Finger Lakes today will sag to the south and set up over the Mid-Atlantic. A strong, complex storm system will then develop along the front for Friday into Saturday.
However, high pressure will also be making a move across the Great Lakes and will nose into the Finger Lakes, blocking the storm from coming too far north.
The main impact the Finger Lakes will see from this scenario will be in the way of some cloud cover. A deck of high, thin clouds will filter, but not completely block out the sunshine on both Friday and Saturday.
While a stray shower may linger in the area early Friday, dry conditions are expected later in the day and into Saturday.
Temperatures both Friday and Saturday will be in the mid 70s.
Skies will then turn mostly sunny for Sunday and a good part of Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures will rise, with upper 70s Sunday, highs near 80 on Monday, and low 80s by Tuesday.
A few pop-up afternoon showers and storms may start to be possible towards the middle of next week, but generally dry and sunny conditions are expected.
