Comfortable temperatures before late week chill

finger lakes weather forecast sun clouds temperatures
The sun will be filtered by high, thin clouds at times Tuesday, but temperatures will still reach the mid 70s.

Temperatures Comfortable Tuesday & Wednesday

The Finger Lakes continues to enjoy pleasant weather during the final days of August.

Temperatures are comfortable but remain a few degrees below the seasonal normals. Highs both Tuesday and Wednesday will once again reach into the mid 70s.

Tuesday will likely be a couple degrees cooler than Wednesday thanks to some extra cloud cover.

A storm system along the coast of the Carolinas will lift northeast today. Whether or not this system meets the technical criteria of a tropical storm, rain and wind extend far to the north of this system.

For the Finger Lakes though, we will remain too far away for anything but the fringe edge of the cloud cover from this storm.

Those high, thin clouds may blanket the sky at times today, but should still let some sunlight through.

This system will pull away for Wednesday, leaving our region bright and sunny once again.

Near Record Chill to Start September

A cold front will drop south out of Canada on Thursday, likely crossing the Finger Lakes during the morning or midday hours.

This front will not have much moisture or energy to work with, so only a few scattered showers are expected at this time.

Temperatures on Thursday will reach the upper 60s, but the incoming cold air will halt the temperature there.

Friday will be very cold for this time of the year. Some places may even challenge their record low maximum temperature for the day.

Highs will top out just a couple degrees above 60, despite some sunshine and not-too-strong winds.

Morning lows Friday and Saturday should drop into the 40s once again. A few 30s could even show up for some of the colder areas.

Weekend Moderates

The weather for the weekend is not overly certain at this point, but it does seem likely that temperatures will moderate.

Highs should return to at least the low 70s, if not a bit warmer.

The biggest question for the weekend will be the chance for some scattered rain showers.

At this time, neither Saturday nor Sunday looks like a washout, but some rain may be possible both days.
