Temperatures Tumble in the Finger Lakes
As promised and highly anticipated by most, a cold front has swept the heat away and replaced it with a cool, refreshing air mass.
Temperatures this morning are generally in the upper 50s thanks to cloudy skies. Without the clouds, it would likely be much cooler.
A steady northwest breeze is blowing, transporting in more cool air.
Temperatures this afternoon should climb into the low 60s as cloud generally remain in place.
A little sun is possible later in the day, especially for the Southern Tier and more western areas. Skies will continue to clear through Thursday night for most areas.
Morning lows Friday will be in the 40s for all but the heart of the Finger Lakes, where low 50s should be expected.
Friday will be a bit warmer thanks to some early sun and a south wind out ahead of a small area of low pressure. Highs Friday afternoon will reach the mid or even upper 60s before some showers start to sneak in before sunset.
Chilly Weekend Ahead
Rain showers will overspread the region Friday night and should linger into Saturday morning.
With the clouds and rain in place, Saturday morning lows will be around 50 degrees, but afternoon highs will only reach the upper 50s.
Rainfall amounts will be rather light, with most areas seeing a quarter inch or less. A few isolated locations could see up to a half-inch though.
Skies should clear late Saturday as high pressure builds in. This will lead to a quiet, cold night.
Sunday morning temperatures will range through the upper 30s to mid 40s, with the warmest readings near the Finger Lakes and the coldest areas in the valleys of the Southern Tier.
Sunday will be sunny though and warmer during the daytime hours. Look for highs to reach the low and mid 60s.
Cold Air Doesn’t Stay Long
The chilly air mass that has broken our heat will start to moderate and trend warmer by early next week. While temperatures will not get as hot as they were, they will still run above normal for most of next week.
Highs should return to the low 70s on Monday despite another very chilly morning.
Tuesday should see mid 70s while low 80s will return to a few areas on Wednesday.
A front will keep temperatures from getting much warmer, with highs falling back towards the mid and upper 60s late next week.
