Nicest Day of the Week

Monday will likely end up being the nicest day of the week as a warm front slides through for some pleasant afternoon temperatures.

Clouds out ahead of this front are moving into the Finger Lakes early Monday morning. Occasional cloudiness will likely continue throughout much of the day, but some glimpses of sunshine are still expected.

This front is dry with no precipitation falling along it. There are a couple lake effect flurries and showers early this morning, but these will quickly move north and dissipate as southwest winds take hold.

The southwest wind will gust between 20-25 mph today with the highest gusts across Western New York and the Southern Tier.

Temperatures will be pleasant, but still a bit below normal. Look for highs this afternoon to be at or just above 50 degrees for much of the region.

The combination of dry conditions and at least tolerable temperatures will make today nicer than any other day this week.

Front Tuesday Brings New Cold Wave

Temperatures overnight should hold in the 40s with skies remaining quite cloudy and the southwest wind persisting.

As the sun begins to rise Tuesday morning, rain showers will start to move into the area. The southwest wind will increase as well, with gusts over 30 mph possible.

Scattered showers will persist for most of the day. Not a lot of rain will fall and there should be plenty of dry time between showers.

During the afternoon, as a cold front moves in, a couple rumbles of thunder along with a heavier downpour may be possible.

Temperatures will reach the mid 50s during the early afternoon but should slip back into the 40s for the late afternoon.

Gusty west and northwest winds will blow overnight with a chance for some lake effect rain showers. A few showers may linger into Wednesday as well with highs in the low 40s.

Thursday will have a chance for some sun mixing with the clouds. Winds will continue to be a bit on the blustery side. Highs will only reach the mid and upper 30s.

High pressure will move overhead Friday with light winds, partial sunshine, and highs in the low 40s.

The weekend looks unsettled, but very uncertain at this time. Watch out for premature weather hype regarding the weekend weather.
