Upcoming Rain Chances
Clouds have increased across the Finger Lakes ahead of a small low pressure system moving into the Upper Great Lakes.
These clouds will be with us much of today, but some breaks of sunshine here and there are possible.
No precipitation is expected to fall during the daytime hours today.
South and southeast winds will keep temperatures on the mild side with highs today in the mid 40s.
A few spotty rain showers or some drizzle will start to develop this evening. This will continue through the night. Temperatures will stay in the upper 30s and low 40s, so no ice or snow is expected.
The best chance for rain will be during the early morning hours Friday. Even then, the rain showers will remain spotty and generally light.
Drizzle and a stray shower or two will remain possible through Friday. Temperatures will jump into the low 50s for most of the immediate Finger Lakes region, with 40s more likely across the Southern Tier and into Central New York.
Weekend Weather and Beyond
Saturday will be a bit cooler behind Friday’s low pressure system. High pressure from Canada will pass overhead and track towards the East Coast.
There may be a few lake effect clouds early, but much of the day should turn out sunny. Temperatures will be in the upper 30s for roughly the eastern half of the region with low 40s to the west.
Everyone should get back into the 40s on Sunday as a more potent weather system approaches. Any early sunshine will be replaced by clouds before too long.
Rain will move in late Sunday afternoon or Sunday evening. The rain will continue through the night and into Monday. Many areas should see between a half and one inch of rainfall.
Given that this is still several days away, the chance for some ice in Central New York cannot be totally discounted yet, but it seems unlikely at this point.
There will be no big cool down behind this system with more 40s expected for next week. Temperatures should stay relatively mild into the first weekend of the new year.

Awww, I hate this weather. I want snowy, cold weather – it would certainly make storing leftovers on the porch easier. I’m not even sure if our leftover snow was enough to count as a white Christmas.
Hope you and yours had a great Christmas Day!
