Overcast and Filtered Sun
Low pressure over the Mid-Atlantic will slowly meander northeastward over the next few days, keeping our skies semi-cloudy.
Mainly thin overcast will stick around for today, tomorrow, and Thursday. The thickness of the clouds will vary at times, and there may be some outright breaks in the cloud cover.
Filtered sunshine will make it through the clouds, keeping it brighter than a typical cloudy day. Tonight, the full, eclipsed moon will similarly be filtered.
Rain is unlikely to make it this far north during this time, though a stray shower cannot be totally ruled out.
There is still also some slight uncertainty about how the low evolves as it meanders along, so there is a slim chance that rain could make it into at least southern or eastern parts of the region, unlikely as it may be.
If some rain did sneak in, it would be most likely Wednesday night into Thursday.
Temperatures will be a touch cooler with the extra cloud cover, but still mild for mid-September.
For today and Wednesday, highs will be in the upper 70s and low 80s. On Thursday, fewer areas will break 80 degrees, and temperatures should average out to mainly be in the upper 70s.
Nighttime temperatures will continue to range throughout the 50s.
Light winds will also remain, with wind speeds the next few days near or under 5 mph. Today’s winds will be from the southeast, Wednesday from the east, and Thursday from the north.
Sunny for the Weekend
By Friday, the low pressure system should be weakening as it begins to drift back southward out over the Atlantic Ocean. High pressure from the northeast will build back into our region to fill the void.
The deck of thin clouds should be gone on Friday, leaving lots of sunshine and a few fair weather clouds. Saturday and Sunday will be similar as well.
Unsurprisingly, no rain is expected between Friday and Sunday.
With high pressure coming in from the northeast, the pattern will be unfavorable for warming. Temperatures, instead, will continue to slowly slide.
Friday, like Thursday, will be in the upper 70s. Mid 70s will be more common for the weekend. Nighttime temperatures will persist in the 50s.
Winds will be light once again on Friday, but may pick up slightly for Saturday and Sunday with speeds of 5-10 mph. These will be southeast winds.
Rain is looking likely sometime during the early to middle part of next week, though the models have yet to come together on a most likely time. Some of the models do show some heavy rain, though, so it is worth keeping an eye on.
Temperatures next week mainly look to stick to the low and mid 70s, though a rainy day could result in cooler temperatures for a day.
