This graphic represents an average over the entire Finger Lakes region. Localized variations should be expected.

Monday Morning

What: A few snow showers

Impacts: Minimal

A warm front moving through will bring a few flurries to the area. No more than a gentle dusting of snow is expected. Temperatures will warm into the 20s on southwest winds.

Monday Afternoon

What: Some late squalls

Impacts: Slight

A cold front will move through late this afternoon. Along and behind the front, snow showers and a few brief squalls are expected. Squalls may put down a quick, slick coating of snow, but overall accumulations should remain well under an inch. Temperatures will top out in the mid 20s with some breezy southwest winds.

Monday Evening-Tuesday

What: Isolate lake effect snow

Where: West-East across the central and northern Finger Lakes, but especially in Livingston and Ontario counties.

Impacts: Slight

A lake effect snow band off Lake Erie will build into the west-central Finger Lakes this evening and remain wobbling around the region through Tuesday. The center of activity will be over Livingston and Ontario counties, where locally a couple inches may fall. The band will send occasional snow showers elsewhere throughout the central and northern Finger Lakes with few impacts.

For areas that are not seeing the snow band at any given time, there will be some breaks in the clouds. Overnight lows will be around 10 degrees with locally colder pockets. Afternoon highs will be in the mid 10s. Wind chills may drop below zero at times, though the wind will not be especially strong.

Wednesday

What: Afternoon snow, potentially squalls

Impacts: Potentially moderate

Another weather system will move into the area later Wednesday. Some widespread snow and possibly snow squalls will pass through the region. More details on the nature of this system will become clear over the next 24 hours.

South winds will push temperatures into the upper 20s in the afternoon and hold them steady into the overnight.

Thursday

What: A few lake flakes

Impacts: Minimal

Cold air will be slow to build in, allowing temperatures to get to around 30 degrees on Thursday.

Some disorganized lake effect snow off Lake Erie will be possible. Like earlier in the week, the central and northern Finger Lakes look most favorable with west-southwest winds.

Friday

What: Lake effect snow, intensifying cold

Impacts: Slight

Winds will gradually turn to the west and west-northwest, allowing the Lake Erie snow band to pivot south through the region. Increasing cold may also help the band organize and strengthen. Accumulations should still generally remain on the light side with the band on the move, but travel may be impacted at times.

Temperatures will spend most of the day in the mid and upper 10s.

Weekend and Next Week

A prolonged period of very cold air is expected. While there is still some question about exactly how cold it will get, there is a real chance that we could go close to a full week without seeing temperatures even reach 20 degrees.

This cold air will build in this weekend when even reaching 10 degrees may be difficult. Lake effect snow showers will be possible with a small chance for a more widespread snow toward Sunday.
