After a warm day today, a cold front tonight will send temperatures back into the 30s for Friday and Saturday. A quick rebound into the 50s is expected on Sunday, continuing through at least the first half of next week. Rain will be likely with the cold front late today, but then it will be mostly dry until Tuesday or Wednesday with just a few stray snow showers Saturday morning.

Thursday through Mid-Afternoon

What: Sun and clouds, warm

Southerly winds will push temperatures up steadily this morning and into the afternoon. Most areas should get well into the 60s. Sun and clouds will mix, with some periods being more sunny than cloudy, and others more cloudy than sunny. No precipitation is expected through the mid-afternoon.

Thursday Late Afternoon and Evening

What: Periods of rain, a few rumbles of thunder

Rain will increase from west to east across the region late this afternoon and this evening. Some of the rain could be briefly heavy with a few rumbles of thunder, especially across the southern half of the area. Winds will turn to the north, with temperatures falling from north to south. By Friday morning, most areas should be under 30 degrees.

Friday

What: Early clouds giving way to sun

Cold north winds will persist on Friday. These will not be too strong, but just steady enough to keep it feeling chilly. Afternoon highs will be in the low 30s, but wind chills will stick to the 20s. Skies will be cloudy during the morning with a gradual transition to sunshine through the midday and afternoon.

Saturday

What: A few early snow showers; Mixed skies

North winds will remain for much of Saturday, but will eventually begin to shift to the west and then south late. A few lake effect snow showers will be possible early on with temperatures in the 20s. No more than an isolated coating of snow is expected. Afternoon highs will again top out in the low 30s.

Sunday

What: Sun and clouds; Warmer

South winds will take over for Sunday, combining with some sunshine to push temperatures back up toward and above 50 degrees. Winds should be light, and no precipitation is expected.

Monday

What: Increased cloud cover

Monday will probably not have as much sunshine as Sunday, though some may still filter through a layer of thin clouds high in the atmosphere from time to time. It will remain mild with highs well into the 50s. At this time, no precipitation is expected.

Later Next Week

A weather system is expected to develop over the middle of the nation, track across the Great Lakes, and pass north of our area. However, there is a large degree of disagreement on the timing of this system. We will likely see temperatures rise further as this system approaches, which is shown with the 60s on Wednesday in the 7-day graphic at the top of the blog. This will likely be followed by a quick shot of cold air, like what we will experience tonight through Saturday. The exact track the low takes will also have an impact on the precipitation we see. Active weather may return for next weekend as well.
