A classic Springtime weather pattern of temperature rises and falls will continue, with cooler weather today but highs in the 70s Friday and Saturday. By early next week, it will be cool again thanks to a rainy cold front on Easter Sunday.
Wednesday
What: Cloudy, some drizzle. Evening rain showers.
A frontal boundary will continue to sag south through the region this morning with a few scattered rain showers or some drizzle. Most of the region is already on the cool side of the front and temperatures will remain fairly steady throughout the day. Winds will be northerly, but light.
This evening, rain showers will increase and turn into some steadier, light rain that will continue overnight. Overnight lows will only be a bit cooler than the daytime temperatures, mainly reaching the upper 30s to near 40 degrees.
Thursday
What: Scattered showers, especially early.
The frontal boundary will gradually work its way back north on Thursday. Scattered showers will be possible, especially in the morning. Northern areas may see some additional showers in the afternoon while some sun tries to come out further south.
Most areas should be near or slightly above 50 degrees, with mid and even upper 50s in the western Southern Tier and Genesee Valley. Temperatures will stay steady or rise slightly overnight.
Winds will be steady from the southeast, but not too strong. Winds will turn southerly and increase for Thursday night with some gusting over 30 mph.
Friday
What: Very warm, a few scattered showers and storms.
Temperatures will soar on Friday with many areas making it above 70 degrees. Skies will be a mix of sun and clouds. A few scattered pop-up showers and storms will be possible. Severe weather is not expected at this time, but the potential will continue to be watched. Breezy south and southwest winds are expected.
Saturday
What: Remaining warm with a few more shower.
Saturday will be similar to Friday with very warm temperatures and a few pop up showers. A stray thunderstorm cannot be ruled out, but conditions look a little less favorable compared to Friday. Winds will be light from the south, but will pick up a bit after sunset.
Sunday
What: Periods of rain, falling temperatures.
A cold front will bring widespread rain on Sunday. Current projections favor the morning for the bulk of the rain. Temperatures will fall throughout the day from the 50s early to the 40s. Light but steady northwest winds are expected.
Early Next Week
Cool air will build in for Monday and Tuesday. Highs Monday may get into the 40s, but most areas may stick to the 30s on Tuesday. A few snow showers may be possible during this time, but there should also be some sunshine.
Later Next Week
A warming trend is expected during the middle and later part of next week. Exactly how warm is still to be determined, with a large range of possibilities showing on the weather models. As a whole, next week looks rather dry.
