The weather this week will be marked by very warm temperatures with most days seeing highs well into the 70s. There will be a daily chance for rain and a few days may have some thunderstorms, but none of the days look like a total washout or widespread heavy rain.

Monday

What: A few showers, breezy

Impacts: Wind gusts (SW) up to 45 mph

As warm air begins to push further into the region, gusty southwest winds will develop. These will peak during the midday hours, when some gusting over 40 mph will be possible. There will be a chance for scattered rain showers this morning and again late in the day. A stray thunderstorm cannot be totally ruled out. The best chance for some sun will be during the afternoon. Highs will end up around 70 degrees with overnight temperatures in the mid 50s.

Tuesday

What: A few showers and storms

Impacts: Storms may contain gusty winds

Like Monday, stray showers and thunderstorms will be possible at almost any time Tuesday. That being said, it will be the late afternoon and early evening when the best chance for showers and storms will be. Any storms that develop during this time could be strong wind gusty winds. Some areas will probably see no rain on Tuesday, and the vast majority of the day will be dry. Winds will remain blustery from the southwest, pushing highs well into the 70s. Overnight temperatures will mostly remain in the 60s.

Wednesday

What: Scattered showers and storms

There will be a higher chance for rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday, but they will still be at least somewhat scattered and especially focused on the afternoon hours. The threat for stronger storms remains too uncertain at this time. With the increased chances for afternoon rain, temperatures may not quite match Tuesday, but should still be above 70 degrees throughout the region and near 60 degrees overnight. Winds should be lighter than Monday or Tuesday.

Thursday

What: A few showers

Southwest winds will become steady again on Thursday as another push of warm air moves north. Thursday may be our best shot at hitting 80 degrees so far this year, though I’ve kept temperatures in the 70s in my forecast so far. Like the previous days, there will probably be a few showers dotting the radar, with the highest chance for rain coming during the morning.

Friday

What: Scattered showers and storms

A cold front will move through on Friday. The timing of the front will determine, in part, how much of a thunderstorm risk we see. At the very least, scattered showers are likely. Temperatures will drop at some point during the day as winds turn northerly. It should not be a huge drop, but most if not all of the day will be in the 60s. Temperatures Friday night will drop back into the low 50s, marking the coolest point of the week.

Saturday

What: Sun and clouds

Light winds and a dry day are currently expected for Saturday, though the weather pattern is active enough where this may change over the coming days. Temperatures should rebound from whatever cool down Friday’s cold front brought with highs returning to the 70s.

Sunday

What: Showers, thunderstorms, temperature crash

Impacts: To be determined

A strong cold front is expected on Sunday. The timing of the front will have a large impact on the weather we see. A frontal passage in the afternoon or early evening could lead to a line of thunderstorms which would need to be monitored for strong winds. An earlier frontal passage or a delay until late Sunday night would reduce the thunderstorm risk. When the front passes, temperatures will likely crash, possibly going from pushing 80 degrees to the 50s in under an hour, and then down into the 30s overnight.
