Sunday 8:40 AM
Update expires: Sunday at Noon.
Snow has overspread the Finger Lakes, but that is just the start of things. This is a very large weather system. Precipitation is moving southwest to northeast, so we can trace solid precipitation all the way back to St. Louis along the axis of movement.
The only real update to the forecast is that the chances for the small, heavy bands I have been talking about for days seem to be coming together. It is much more likely that we see pockets of 18-24 inches than places not reaching a foot.
Monday’s weather will be slow to improve, but improve it will. The Southern Tier will be the first to see the snow taper to on and off snow showers during the morning, with most of the rest of the region following suit in the midday and afternoon.
Winds will pick up in the afternoon, causing areas of blowing and drifting. Max gusts should stay in the 30-35 mph range.
Snow will remain rather steady in Wayne, northern Cayuga, and Onondaga counties into the early evening before becoming more sporadic.
Additional snow on Monday after 9 AM will range from little to none across the Southern Tier, to an inch or two across much of the region, and perhaps upwards of 4 or 5 inches in the far northeast, including Syracuse.
Note: The orange and pink colors across the South and Mid-Atlantic regions are depictions of icy precipitation showing on the radar.
