Cayuga Lake Micro-Band

A small lake effect band off Cayuga Lake is sending persistent snow into eastern Ithaca and, I imagine, into at least southeastern Tompkins County.

This band is small enough and close enough to the surface that the radar in Binghamton is not seeing it at all.

Winds will remain steady through the midday and first part of the afternoon, so this band may linger around for a while. Several inches may locally fall, while areas a couple miles away see sunshine.

As the winds shift late this afternoon, the band will move off the lake and disappear.

Let me know what you are seeing if you are in southeastern Tompkins and northern Tioga counties. Your on-the-ground reports are literally the only source of information there is for this micro-band!

Going to Cornell hockey game tonight at Lynah rink. Was wondering how the roads will be between 6-10 pm.

It’s sunny and clear in Brooktondale but just about 3 miles up 79 as you head into Ithaca proper its snowing pretty steadily.
