Weather turns Springy for Finger Lakes

Well above normal temperatures, mostly dry conditions, and not-too-strong winds will make for a real taste of Spring this week.

Well above normal temperatures, mostly dry conditions, and not-too-strong winds will make for a real taste of Spring this week.

Warm air is already heading into the Finger Lakes Monday morning. Some clouds and a few showers just before dawn marked the arrival of the start of our big warm up.

For much of the Finger Lakes, those clouds will transition over to sunshine during the course of the morning. Areas close to Lake Ontario may linger in the cloudiness longer as the warm air slowly pushes north.

Especially for those areas that get into the sunshine today, temperatures should warm into the 50s this afternoon. Some part of the Southern Tier could see upper 50s, while areas that get stuck under persistent clouds may only reach the upper 40s to near 50 degrees.

Temperatures should be able to climb above 60 degrees for most areas on Tuesday. A weak disturbance will pass through during the morning with clouds and maybe a few spits of rain. Generally though, most of the day should remain dry.

Wednesday looks sunnier than Tuesday and should be the warmest day of the week. Many areas will push into the mid and even upper 60s. A couple of locations could even make a run at 70 degrees (I’m looking at you, Dansville and Elmira!) It will be an all around spectacular day.

A storm system will slide in for Thursday, bringing the rainier side of spring into the Finger Lakes. Rain may persist for much of the day, with temperatures falling from the 50s into the 40s. Friday looks sunny, with highs in the 40s. This is still warmer than normal for this time of the year.

Warmer weather may move back in before too long, with 60s a possibility for Saturday and generally above normal temperatures expected for much of March.
