Enjoy the comfortable weather on Monday, because the heat will return quickly this week.

Monday will be the second in a two-day break from well above normal temperatures. After Sunday’s cool, damp day, Monday will be much nicer with a fair amount of sun, calm winds and comfortable temperatures. Some clouds will work in for the afternoon, but the sun should still break out frequently enough.

Temperatures on Monday will range from the upper 70s to the low 80s. Check your zip code forecast for what to expect in your specific town. No precipitation is expected today, and dew points in the 50s will keep it feeling mild, but comfortable.

After today, however, heat and humidity will come streaming back into the Finger Lakes. The humidity on Tuesday will remain relatively low, but temperatures will spike into the upper 80s, with some of the warmer areas hitting 90 degrees. Sunny skies and the low humidity will bake the ground, and the rain that fell this weekend will probably be mostly evaporated before the day is done.

Wednesday is looking like the hottest day of the week. Widespread 90s are possible, with some of the urban areas pushing towards 95 degrees. The humidity will come up as well, with dew points in the 60s. While not oppressive, the heat index could still sneak into the upper 90s for some areas. One or two showers or storms may be possible late in the day, but these will be few and far between.

Instead, Thursday will be the day to watch for rain in the Finger Lakes. An incoming cold front will clash with the hot and humid air, leading to a chance for rain and thunderstorms. The details will need to be worked out over the coming days, but if the timing and winds are right, there will certainly be enough heat and moisture around to fuel some robust thunderstorms. If rain holds off until later in the day, some more 90 degree temperatures will be possible.

Cooler weather will come back in for Friday and the weekend, possibly with another chance for some rain.
