Hot and dry weekend in the Finger Lakes

Hot, dry weather will continue for the weekend across the Finger Lakes. The Finger Lakes weather forecast for the weekend has more of the same: no rain, plenty of sun and very warm temperatures. While this may be nice for outdoor activities, it certainly will not help the continued drought situation.

Tolerable Saturday

A cold front slid through the region on Friday. As expected, only very isolated showers developed, and even those that saw rain yesterday say minimal amounts.

The good news is that the front cleared out some of the humidity. After having dew points in the 70s yesterday and heat index values approaching 100 degrees, Saturday will be much more tolerable.

Temperatures will generally settle into the middle 80s, with the warmer areas reaching into the upper 80s, and the outlying, higher elevations sticking in the low 80s. Dew points will retreat into the 50s and 60s, keeping the heat index and actual temperature virtually the same.

It will also remain breezy today, with winds from the northwest generally between 10-15 mph with gusts of 20-30 mph.

Bright, sun filled skies this morning will gradually transition to a mix of sun and puffy, fair weather clouds. This evening, skies should clear again with temperatures dropping well into the 60s overnight.

Heat Returns Sunday

The surface wind will become nearly calm on Sunday. However, just above the surface, southwest winds will transport in much warmer air. With sunny skies once again, the warmer temperatures aloft will translate to warmer temperatures at the surface.

Many areas will reach 90 degrees yet again on Sunday. Some places in and around Rochester could even push for the mid 90s, while areas in the far eastern Finger Lakes have the best chance at remaining in the 80s.

The humidity will remain low, with dew points primarily in the 60s.This should keep the heat index near the actual temperature once again.

Clouds will increase during the evening hours, preventing temperatures from falling quickly during the evening. As a result, Sunday night will be hot and muggy. Some thunderstorms may be possible late at night as a cold front approaches.
