Cooler Friday but comfortable this weekend

The Finger Lakes will enjoy a couple of pleasant days that are neither too hot, nor too cool.

Temperatures Slide Friday

Last night’s severe thunderstorms were triggered in a hot and humid air mass as a small disturbance passed through the region. The actual cold front is just starting to move into the Finger Lakes this morning.

Since the front has not yet cleared the area, temperatures remain mild with widespread low and mid 60s to start the day.

As the front moves through, those temperatures will actually slide backward during the course of the day, though only slightly.

Look for afternoon temperatures today in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees.

Skies are already quite sunny, and while a few clouds and maybe a shower may accompany the front, precipitation will be hard to come by today.

Any clouds will depart later this afternoon for a sunny end to the day and a clear night ahead.

Those clear skies will allow for temperatures to fall back into the low 40s by Saturday morning.

Finger Lakes Weekend Weather

Saturday should be very nice day across the Finger Lakes. The sun will be bright, winds will be light, and temperatures will be in the “Goldilocks Zone”- not too hot, not too cold, but just right.

Most areas should get into the upper 60s Saturday afternoon. Areas right along the shore of Lake Ontario, however, will see a cooling effect from the lake and will top out in the upper 50s.

The temperatures on Sunday should be similar, except a gusty south wind will keep the cool air over Lake Ontario from moving inland.

That wind could gust over 30 mph at times Sunday.

There will be more cloud cover on Sunday as a storm system approaches from the west. Whether or not the rain from this system holds off until after sunset Sunday, or if some showers and thunderstorms move in for the afternoon is still a bit uncertain. The trend is for the rain to arrive earlier, so be sure to check back if you have outdoor plans Sunday afternoon and evening.

Rain will taper off by Monday morning, with a quarter to a half inch expected across the Finger Lakes.
