Nice Friday Weather

The weather Friday will be quite enjoyable for late January with ample sunshine and warming temperatures.

South winds are already taking hold over the western and central Finger Lakes, resulting in temperatures starting the day in the 20s.

The 7 am temperatures around the Finger Lakes region were mostly in the 20s, except towards Central New York, where calm winds allowed temperatures to fall into the low teens. Temperatures were even colder across the Adirondacks. Click image to enlarge.

Further east, where winds have been calm all night, temperatures are much cooler with low teens. Single digits and even subzero temperatures exist north and east of the Finger Lakes.

All areas should see a 20 to 30 degree jump in the temperature today thanks to sunny skies and a persistent southerly flow.

For the western Finger Lakes and western New York, this will result in highs pushing into the upper 40s. Mid 40s will be the most widespread across the Finger Lakes, with parts of the eastern Finger Lakes sticking in the low 40s.

A few clouds will start to work in during the afternoon and evening hours as the next weather system begins to make its approach.

Temperatures tonight will dip back into the 30s.

Some Rain Saturday, Nicer Sunday

Clouds will increase Friday night and skies should be mostly overcast by Saturday morning. A couple glimpses of the sun may be possible early on, but it should be short-lived.

Winds will continue to blow from the south and southwest and will turn blustery with gusts of 30 to 35 mph commonplace.

Temperatures should rise into the upper 40s on the south wind despite the lack of sunshine. A couple places may hit 50 degrees.

A few scattered rain showers will start to develop during the midday hours. This rain should gradually become more widespread by the late afternoon and evening hours.

After midnight, the rain will start to pull out, just leaving a few scattered showers. Most areas should not see more than a quarter inch of rain.

A few snow flurries may mix in with the showers early Sunday before the atmosphere dries out. By the afternoon, at least some sunshine is expected.

Temperatures will not be quite as warm, but will still be above normal with highs in the low 40s.
