Hot for the 4th
It is more of the same for the Finger Lakes on the 4th of July with temperatures expected to rise into the 90s once again.
Heat Advisories are in place once again as the combination of heat and humidity sends heat index values above 95 degrees.
Most places will top out in the low 90s this afternoon, but a stretch of mid 90s along I-90 between Rochester and Syracuse is likely.
Areas across the Southern Tier will stick in the 80s thanks to some extra clouds and a few thunderstorms, which are already rumbling in the area this morning.
A few of those thunderstorms may drift north during the afternoon. Generally speaking, areas west of Keuka Lake seem to have the best chance for an afternoon storm today.
Any thunderstorm activity should quickly dissipate as the sun starts to set this evening. Overnight temperatures will be in the low and mid 70s.
More Storms Thursday-Early Friday
Today will likely be the last very hot day in this heat wave thanks to an increased chance in thunderstorms on Thursday and a cold front early Friday.
After a sunny, warm start, showers and storms should begin to fire up during the early afternoon hours on Thursday as temperatures rise into the mid and upper 80s.
Clusters of storms will persist into the late afternoon, tracking from southwest to northeast. Some areas may see multiple storms during the afternoon.
Severe weather should be limited, but a couple of strong wind gusts will be possible, along with lightning and some heavy downpours.
After a lull in the action Thursday evening, rain showers and a couple of thunderstorms will move back in after midnight.
This rain will continue into the early morning hours but should push easy by the mid to late morning.
Friday afternoon will turn sunny with a refreshing, but blustery northwest wind. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 70s.
The weekend looks sunny and dry with upper 70s on Saturday and low to mid 80s on Sunday.
