End-of-Summer Feel
In the wake of Tuesday’s storm system, the Finger Lakes will have that tell-tale late Summer feel.
The cold front associated with low pressure just north of New York State has cleared the Finger Lakes, making its passage early this morning.
Clouds will remain thick across the region today, however, and some showers are also likely. Showers will be especially possible near the Great Lakes as the cool air over the lakes leads to some early season lake effect.
The best chances for rain will be this morning and again during the early evening hours.
Cool northwest winds will be gusty today with frequent gusts in the 25-35 mph range.
The wind, clouds, and showers will all work to keep temperatures down. Most places will only get a couple degrees above 70 degrees, and a few of the higher elevations of southwestern New York may not even get that warm.
Thursday should be a little warmer and nicer. Sunshine will return to the region, darting in and out of some fair-weather clouds. The wind will drop to a gentler breeze, still from the northwest.
Temperatures will be in the low to mid 70s, but humidity levels will remain minimal, making for a very comfortable day.
Summer Not Done Though
While the “End-of-Summer Feel” is an annual occurrence in the Finger Lakes, so too, it seems, is a significant warm up as August closes and September begins.
Sure enough, we are not done with the heat and humidity yet.
Friday will still be a nice day, though temperatures will get a boost to the upper 70s and low 80s as winds swing around to the south.
Saturday may have a couple stray showers as a warm front approaches. Those scattered showers may persist into Sunday as the front only slowly lifts through.
Highs on Saturday will again hover around 80 degrees, but Sunday could jump into the mid 80s if enough sun works out.
Some showers and thunderstorms may hold temperatures back a bit on Monday, but Tuesday and even Wednesday could result in 90 degree temperatures with 70 degree dewpoints.
Temperatures appear to stay above normal, though not quite that hot, through the end of August and into early September at least.
