A Few Scattered Showers
High pressure will pass overhead today, but a small wave of energy in the jet stream and a nearly stationary front will bring a few showers Friday and Saturday.
With the high overhead today, it will be a quiet, pleasant day in the Finger Lakes.
Sunshine will be abundant, winds will be nearly calm, and humidity levels will remain low. High temperatures will be close to the seasonal averages, topping out in the mid and upper 70s.
As the high retreats tonight, a wave of energy will drop southeast into the Great Lakes. This will cause a frontal boundary draped over the Mid-Atlantic to start creeping northward.
Skies will go from clear this morning to partly cloudy overnight. A few showers may even cross into New York State from the south before the sun is up on Friday.
Overnight temperatures will not be as cool as a result, but many places may still make it into the upper 50s.
Scattered showers will drift northward Friday morning, slowly making their way across the Finger Lakes. Most areas should see some rain on Friday, but a few areas will probably miss out. A heavier downpour or few rumbles of thunder cannot be ruled out.
High temperatures on Friday will range through the 70s, but most areas should get above 75 degrees.
A few showers will linger into Saturday as well. These showers should be smaller in size, more widely scattered, and mostly during the morning hours. Increasing sunshine is expected for the afternoon as highs push into the upper 70s and low 80s.
Turning Warmer
Our weather will start to turn warmer again starting Sunday as high pressure sets up over the western Atlantic Ocean.
Sunday will have some clouds from time to time, but also periods of sunshine. Light southwest winds will boost temperatures into the mid 80s.
Monday looks even warmer with a few areas making a run at 90 degrees. Widely scattered afternoon showers and storms may pop up as our humidity increases.
By Tuesday, a front will slide through from the northwest. The timing of the front will influence what sort of rain and thunderstorms we possibly see, but at this time, not a lot of rain is expected. Temperatures should still reach the mid 80s for most areas.
Wednesday will also be in the mid 80s, but upper 80s may start returning by Thursday and continuing into the weekend. Rain chances late next week look low at this time.
