Thanksgiving Warm-Up
A push of warm air will make for a mild Thanksgiving, but showers will accompany the warm-up, especially late Wednesday.
The warming trend can be broken down into two steps. The first step already occurred last night as an initial push of warm air triggered a brief bout of light snow and rain.
Behind this, winds are out of the south and temperatures have been slowly rising overnight.
The warming today will ultimately be limited as south winds decrease and clouds remain in place. Look for highs to reach the mid and perhaps upper 40s this afternoon.
A few breaks of sun will be possible through the morning and early afternoon, but clouds will thicken and rain showers will move in for the late afternoon.
The rain should start to break out after 3 PM and will continue into the evening. It may not rain the entire time, but there will be periods of steady rain. The rain should become more sporadic after midnight.
Temperatures this evening will initially dip into the low 40s but will come back up to the mid 40s overnight.
On and off showers will continue to be possible on Thanksgiving, especially through the morning hours. A couple of brief downpours may also be possible. Between the showers, some breaks of sun will be possible.
High temperatures on Thanksgiving should be well into the 50s, with most areas above 55 degrees.
Weekend Weather & Early December
Thursday will be the warmest day of this week, but that does not mean cold air is set to rush back into the region.
Friday and Saturday will both be rather cloudy days. An active jet stream overhead may bring a couple small disturbances through that could touch off a few rain showers.
Friday will be warmer, with highs in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees. Saturday will be right on the seasonal averages, with highs mostly in the low 40s, but a few upper 30s in higher elevations.
High pressure will move through late Saturday, clearing our skies and turning winds back to the south.
Morning lows Sunday will range through the 30s with a few pockets of upper 20s, but it would probably get colder if not for the wind.
Sunshine is expected throughout Sunday until some late clouds start to move in. Temperatures should make another run at 50 degrees.
Models continue to indicate a strong storm system will form over the Gulf States and move northward, interacting with a second low out of Canada and bringing meaningful weather to our region early next week.
At this time, the track of the low is expected to stay to the west. This would bring strong winds and potentially heavy rain Monday into Tuesday.
Less certain is the evolution of this complex later Tuesday, and there will be a chance for some snow on the backside. Right now, the chances for accumulating snow look less than 50%, but it is far too early to be certain.
Temperatures will settle into a cold pattern behind this system for early December. Daily highs in the 30s are expected. With the cold, there will be chances for snow, but it is too early to discuss any specific snow threats.
