Mild Temperatures

A southerly flow of air the next two days will keep temperatures elevated.

High pressure off the coast of North Carolina and a scarcely noticeable low over Michigan are both influencing the southerly winds today. The winds themselves will be light with speeds near or just over 5 mph.

Nonetheless, with a mix of sun and clouds, temperatures will steadily climb today with many areas near or just above 60 degrees this afternoon.

North of I-90, a lake breeze will kick in off Lake Ontario, bringing cooler air south over the lakeshore. Highs here will be in the mid and upper 50s.

Late this afternoon, a deck of more widespread cloud cover will lift north into the region. The clouds and continuing southerly winds will help temperatures stay near 40 degrees tonight.

Some rain may sneak into roughly the southern half of the region after midnight and before dawn. Most of the rain should be out of the area near or shortly after sunrise. Rainfall amounts will be light.

Sunshine will poke in and out of some clouds during the late morning and early afternoon Wednesday before new clouds build in later in the afternoon. By evening, more rain showers will be moving in, this time from the west.

Southeast winds will increase after sunrise to speeds around 10 mph. This will help the Thruway corridor warm into the mid 60s, while the southern half of the region mostly stays near or just above 60 degrees. Nighttime temperatures will stick to the mid 40s as rain showers continue to increase throughout the region.

Cool and Unsettled

The weather on Thursday will vary by area and will get a bit mixed up.

A front will move in early in the morning and stall out over the area. Along and east of the front, rain showers will be likely. Behind the front, some sunshine will be possible.

For the morning hours, much of the area will see clouds and rain. During the afternoon, the rain will focus mainly east of Cayuga Lake. The heaviest rain looks as though it will stay to our east.

With the clouds and rain, highs will be in the mid and upper 40s from about Seneca Lake eastward. Between Seneca Lake and about I-390, temperatures will be in the low and mid 50s. West of I-390, behind the front, it will actually be even warmer thanks to the sunshine. Here, temperatures will be in the mid and upper 50s.

Rain showers will be possible at any time on Friday, but the day does not look like a washout. Because there should be plenty of dry time between showers, temperatures should work their way into the low and mid 50s.

Saturday will see an increase in showers and a decrease in temperatures. Highs will top out in the mid 40s. A few morning flurries may also mix in.

Morning flurries will also be possible on Sunday. Precipitation should end and some afternoon sun will be possible with another day in the mid 40s.

Rapid warming will kick off on Monday with highs well into the 60s. Most of next week will be warm with highs at least in the 60s if not 70s. The warm weather will retreat by next weekend.
