Mild Temperatures
A large weather system over the Midwest this morning will lift north into Canada and dissipate before tracking east.
Still, our weather over the next two days will be influenced by the system.
Clouds on the edge of the system are already working into the Finger Lakes this morning. Some sun will filter through the clouds this morning, but as the day goes on, the clouds will thicken up. No precipitation is expected during the daytime hours, though.
Southeast winds feeding into this system will be near 10 mph much of the day, increasing to near 15 mph by the evening hours.
Mild air will continue to move in on these winds, with most areas seeing temperatures a couple of degrees higher than yesterday.
The warmest areas, near Rochester, Dansville, and from Elmira to Binghamton, will flirt with 60 degrees. Immediately surrounding areas will be in the upper 50s, with most of the region settling in the mid 50s. A few hilltops may stick to the low 50s.
A few rain showers will move through this evening with a better chance for rain during the overnight period. This rain will be along a warm front that will keep the mild air in place for another day.
Overnight lows will only be in the low and mid 40s. Afternoon highs on Wednesday will then slightly exceed today’s temperatures, with many areas around 60 degrees. Winds will be from the south at around 10 mph.
Showers may linger after sunrise for areas east of Seneca Lake on Wednesday morning. They should depart by the mid-morning, leaving clouds and some breaks of sun.
A few more showers will be possible late in the afternoon as a cold front moves in from the northwest. These will spread east during the early evening but may not hold together very well. A few spits of rain and perhaps a flurry will persist overnight and into early Thursday.
Quiet and a Bit Cooler
Any early flurries will dissipate quickly on Thursday. Cloud cover is uncertain, however, thanks to a developing low along the coast. The further east you are, the better the chances for a deck of thin overcast to filter the sunshine.
Temperatures will start Thursday in the mid 30s and will rise to a high in the mid 40s. The average high for late April is also in the mid 40s, so this is right on target.
Thursday night’s lows will be around 30 degrees, with Friday again topping out in the mid 40s. There is a better chance for some sunshine on Friday, though northwest winds may introduce a few lake effect clouds.
The wind on Friday will turn blustery, with speeds building to 15 mph in the afternoon with gusts over 30 mph. The strongest winds will be east of Cayuga Lake.
Winds may stay blustery early Saturday but will diminish as the day goes on. Sunshine will mix with some occasional clouds.
With winds letting up, temperatures should be able to rise a couple of degrees, topping out in the upper 40s with a few low 50s.
A small system may pass through Saturday Night or early Sunday, but precipitation looks limited, and sunshine should increase for Easter Sunday afternoon. Temperatures will be in the upper 40s.
Unsettled and cooler weather will build in next week. Precipitation looks especially likely Tuesday and Wednesday, some of which could be snow.
Warmer weather should return by next weekend, but the uncertainty in the exact temperature and accompanying weather conditions is very high.
