Saturday Evening Update
An afternoon cold front will bring a chance for thunderstorms to the Finger Lakes on Sunday, a few of which may turn strong.
After a warm front brings scattered morning showers and a few thunderstorms, a cold front will trigger a more concentrated line of rain and thunder during the early to mid afternoon.
This line of storm will drop from north-northwest to south-southeast. As the line drops south, it will organize and strengthen.
The greatest risk for severe weather will be across Pennsylvania, but the Southern Tier in particular could see some isolated severe thunderstorms as well.
Damaging winds will be the primary risk from any thunderstorms, though some hail could also be possible. Lightning and heavy downpours will also accompany the storms.
The severe thunderstorm risk should end as the front clears the region sometime between 4-6 PM.
I would not be surprised to see a severe thunderstorm watch issued for portions of the area.
As a reminder, a severe thunderstorm watch means the atmosphere is capable of producing severe thunderstorms, while a severe thunderstorm warning means a severe thunderstorm is occurring and threatening the area under the warning.
Unless there is a drastic uptick in the severe risk across our area, I will probably not have another update since tomorrow is Sunday, but know I will be watching and ready to publish an update if necessary. The most likely time for an update will be around Noon.
