Sun and Clouds
Skies are mixed across the Finger Lakes to start us off this Wednesday morning.
Some areas are sunny, while others are still seeing clouds left over from yesterday’s rain. Some other areas are seeing river valley fog.
Gradually, sunshine will win out across the region this morning. That is not to say there will be no clouds, but the clouds should be small enough to keep skies sunny overall.
Winds will be light today, coming in from the northwest at around 5 mph. The wind may go nearly calm for a time this afternoon as a small center of high pressure passes across the area.
Temperatures will generally top out around 70 degrees today. Some higher elevations and the immediate Lake Ontario shoreline will stick to the 60s. Meanwhile, the warm valleys of the Southern Tier will rise to the mid 70s.
Tonight, skies will remain partly cloudy. There is a small chance for a few drips of rain here or there as a decaying low pressure passes by to the north. Most areas will not see rain, and those that do will probably not see enough to wet the pavement.
Evening temperatures will be slow to drop through the 60s with overnight lows eventually making it into the mid 50s.
Thursday will also be dry with a mix of sun and thin clouds. The clouds may be more plentiful than this afternoon but should remain thin enough to make for another overall sunny day.
Winds will start westerly but will turn to the northwest by noon. Afternoon wind speeds will increase to around 10 mph. Most areas will not reach 70 degrees thanks to this wind. The best chance for 70 degrees or higher will be in the same warm valleys of the Southern Tier.
The wind will become nearly calm Thursday evening before picking back up from the southeast by Friday morning. Skies will continue to be mixed overnight but may be more clear than not. Overnight lows will be in the mid and upper 40s.
Friday will probably have more clouds than sun, but should not be totally overcast. No rain is expected, either. With light southeast winds, highs will return to the mid 70s on average, with the Southern Tier valleys nearing 80 degrees.
Weather This Weekend, Next Week
Our next weather maker will head toward our region on Saturday. There are still some uncertainties in how the day will play out, though.
If the incoming front moves quick enough, clouds and showers will be likely, especially in the afternoon. This scenario would hold temperatures in the low and mid 60s.
However, a later front arriving Saturday night would keep the daytime hours mostly dry. Temperatures may be able to climb to near 70 degrees thanks to southerly winds ahead of the front.
Either way, rain is expected to continue into Saturday Night and possibly Sunday morning as well. Sunday should gradually dry out, though there may not be much in the way of sunshine, even in the afternoon.
Temperatures on Sunday will likely average out in the mid 60s but will partially depend on how long the rain sticks around and whether any sun manages to break out.
Another weather system will be moving toward our region for a Tuesday arrival. Monday will therefore be mostly cloudy out ahead of this system, but with an upward nudge in temperatures. Highs currently look to be somewhere around 70 degrees.
The nature of Tuesday’s front is uncertain, but showers will be likely and thunderstorms a possibility. Temperatures will depend on the timing of the front.
Temperatures around 70 degrees are favored into the latter part of next week, after which 60s become more likely. The weather pattern looks rather unsettled late next week, through next weekend, and into the following week. Time will tell how that manifests, though.
