Weekend Weather Forecast
Clouds are in place across the Finger Lakes Friday morning out ahead of a decaying low pressure system over the Upper Great Lakes.
While this system will continue to weaken and remain disorganized, it will bring some rain showers into the area late Friday into Saturday.
Most of the daytime hours Friday will be dry throughout the region. Some rain will start to move into western areas after 5 PM, but areas east of Cayuga Lake are unlikely to see rainfall before sunset.
Steady south-southeast winds will blow with speeds of 5-10 mph, ensuring temperatures stay warm. Afternoon highs will generally be in the mid 70s today.
Rain showers will be scattered about the entire region this evening, overnight, and into early Saturday. There is still some uncertainty about how long showers will linger on Saturday. The afternoon is more likely to be dry, but a few scattered showers may continue.
Saturday’s winds will be southerly in the morning, but then become light and variable in the afternoon. High temperatures will be in the low 70s.
Partly cloudy skies are expected Saturday Night with some areas of valley fog. Sunday will have some morning clouds and fog gradually burning off. The afternoon should be increasingly sunny.
Rain is generally not expected on Sunday, but a stray afternoon pop-up shower cannot be totally ruled out. Highs will return to the mid 70s.
Next Week’s Weather Forecast
Sunshine and a southerly flow will bump temperatures up another level on Monday with most areas at or above 80 degrees.
There may be some more widespread cloud cover in the afternoon in the form of thin clouds high in the atmosphere. No rain is expected.
Tuesday will be sunnier, with only a few stray clouds here and there. South winds will persist, with temperatures adding a degree or two onto Monday’s highs. The typically warmer areas around Syracuse, in the Genesee Valley, and in the broad valleys of the Southern Tier have a good shot at getting above 85 degrees.
An increase in clouds on Wednesday will keep temperatures closer to Monday’s values, but the dewpoint will creep upwards into the 60s, making it feel humid. This could also result in some late day or early evening showers and thunderstorms as a cold front approaches.
Behind the front, a few showers will linger early Thursday before sunshine increases. Highs will return to the mid 70s.
Temperatures will continue to decrease late next week, into the weekend, and possibly through the end of May. Highs during this time will stick closer to 70 degrees as a generality.
The weather mostly looks dry next week outside of the late Wednesday cold front. More unsettled weather is expected toward the final days of the month.
