Severe Thunderstorm Watch
The Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for eastern portions of our region though the remainder of the afternoon.
Now, the most widespread precipitation is already exiting the Finger Lakes region to the east, and this line will be the primary severe weather maker for the larger watch area as a whole across eastern New York, eastern Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
However, the inclusion of counties to the west of this line in our area is likely due to some modeling showing additional scattered thunderstorms developing during the late afternoon.
These storms will not become a widespread event like the current line that is pushing east, but will be more of the hit-or-miss variety. Among these storms, I do not expect most to become severe… but a few might. I expect our area will be removed from the severe thunderstorm watch well before it is set to expire at 9 PM.
Damaging winds will be the primary threat, along with some occasional lightning and heavy downpours.
Continue to monitor the latest radar and heed any warnings if you are out and about this holiday afternoon.

Drew,
Thank you for providing such great and frequent weather reporting this weekend. Really appreciate your efforts because you usually don’t post on the weekends. After all, weekends are your time off, too. Hope you got to enjoy some of the weekend with family. Have a nice evening. From an ardent fan.

Thanks, Melanie! Yes, I managed to fit in some very nice family time throughout the weekend. 🙂 I’ve been watching (and worrying about) today’s forecast since early last week, so I’m very glad we got through the day without much trouble.
