Weekend Weather Forecast
A slow moving low pressure system will meander into the area this weekend, bringing unsettled weather into early next week.
Rain is not expected to reach the Finger Lakes during the daytime hours Friday, but there will be a gradual increase and thickening of the clouds. Early on in the day, though, sunshine, filtered by some lingering smoke, will be abundant.
South winds of 5-10 mph will help temperatures reach their high point for the week with many areas in the mid 80s. Dewpoints will still be comfortably low, mainly in the 50s.
Scattered showers will move into the area tonight, especially after midnight. A few rumbles of thunder may accompany some of the showers, but most areas should not see too much rain.
Most of Saturday will probably be dry for any given location, though stray showers will dot the region from time to time.
Some of those showers could form into clusters during the afternoon with a few thundery downpours. This is uncertain, though, and should mainly be a possibility in the early and mid afternoon.
Temperatures will be knocked back by the increase in clouds and occasional showers. Highs will mainly be in the upper 70s and low 80s.
Rain chances will increase for Sunday with occasional showers likely throughout the day. A few thundery downpours may be possible. Whereas Saturday will be mostly dry, Sunday may have few, if any, prolonged dry periods.
Sunday’s temperatures will start mild in the mid and upper 60s, but highs will mainly stick to the mid 70s with a few warmer pockets.
Next Week’s Weather
Unsettled weather will culminate on Monday with another day of widespread rain and showers. Again, a few thundery downpours will be possible, which by this time could result in some minor ponding in poor drainage areas.
An accompanying cold front will move through late in the day, marking the departure of this weather system.
High temperatures on Monday will be in the low 70s, but Tuesday may only see highs in the mid and upper 60s.
Tuesday will be dry with a mix of sun and fair weather clouds. A north wind will blow with speeds of 10-15 mph and gust of 25-30 mph.
North winds will persist on Wednesday but will not be as strong. Skies will again be a mix of sun and clouds, and temperatures should push back into the low 70s.
Mid 70s are expected next Thursday with highs Friday in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. Winds will be light and variable as high pressure moves through with sunshine and dry conditions.
While less certain this far out, dry weather is favored next weekend as well as temperatures begin to push into the 80s.
